How do you get from Izmir Airport to Karaburun?

From Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport to Karaburun we have a drive of about 120 km, which on most days takes 1.5–2 hours. The first half of the drive is quick: we follow the ring road and the Cesme motorway as far as Urla. At Urla we leave the motorway for the eastern shore of the peninsula and continue north through Balikliova and Mordogan.

After Mordogan the road winds along the coast, and these bends are why the journey takes a little longer than the distance suggests. The sea is on one side of us and the slopes of Akdag on the other. As we get closer to the tip of the peninsula, the villages thin out and the landscape becomes simpler.

On winding roads, a short break around Mordogan does passengers with a sensitive stomach and small children good. If you like, make a note of it when you book; we allow for the break and give you the estimated arrival time accordingly.

Where do people stay in Karaburun?

Karaburun town, the district centre with its small harbour and fishing boats, lies near the northern tip of the peninsula. There are a few hotels and guesthouses in town, but most accommodation is outside it. Guesthouses and holiday homes are found in the small coastal villages, and stone village houses in the mountain villages on the slopes of Akdag.

Karaburun is also known for its narcissus fields in winter, when the hillsides of the peninsula are covered in white flowers. People who want to hike, swim in quiet coves and see village life up close choose this area.

Some of the roads to the mountain villages are narrow, and the turnings are not always signposted. When you send us the village name and a map pin for the house, we work out the route in advance and bring you right to the front of the house. If a lane is too narrow for the car, we agree the nearest point with you.

Karaburun and Mordogan: what is the difference?

On the peninsula, two names are often confused. Mordogan also belongs to the Karaburun district, which is why many addresses in Mordogan say “Karaburun”. Mordogan, however, is much earlier on the road, on the peninsula’s eastern shore, and its fare is different. If your address is there, take a look at our Mordogan page.

Balikliova, at the start of the road to Karaburun, belongs to Urla; for Urla itself we have a separate Urla route. If you are not sure which village along the coast you are in, share your address; we check the location and tell you which fare applies before we set off.

How much is a transfer from Izmir Airport to Karaburun?

Our transfer from Izmir Airport to Karaburun costs €90 / ₺4.750 per vehicle, one way. We do not charge per person, so a family of four spending a week in a village house and a group of seven coming to hike pay the same amount. The vehicle is reserved only for you, and we take you straight to your door without changing vehicles. For eight or more people, message us on WhatsApp and we plan a second vehicle together.

There is no prepayment; you pay the fare in cash when the ride is over. A return trip costs exactly two one-way fares. If the village you are staying in falls outside this route, we look at your address and tell you the fare in advance.

Returning from Karaburun to Izmir Airport

On the way back we pick you up at the house or guesthouse where you stayed. In town the hotel entrance is our meeting point; in the mountain villages it is usually the front of the house, or a spot such as the village square where the car can turn easily.

The drive back takes as long as the drive out, and this time the winding part comes at the start, so we add a little margin when we set the pickup time. Just send us your flight time and your check-out time.
