How do you get from Izmir Airport to Sigacik?

From Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport to Sigacik we have a drive of about 60 km, which on most days takes 45–60 minutes. After leaving the airport we head south towards Menderes, then follow a hilly road to the town of Seferihisar. From the town we turn west and soon come down to the coast at Sigacik.

On the last part of the drive, the road runs between mandarin orchards and olive groves. As we come down to the bay, the marina and the stone walls appear right in front of us.

On this drive of under an hour we usually carry straight on. If you would like a short stop after your flight to pick up water or a snack, just tell us and we add it to the route.

Where do people stay in Sigacik?

Sigacik is an old harbour village in the Seferihisar district, and its heart is Kaleici, the quarter inside the walls the Ottomans built in the 16th century. Most of the stone houses within the walls are now used as boutique hotels and guesthouses. In the evening the narrow lanes and the fish restaurants at the foot of the walls come alive; this is the liveliest part of the village. Guests staying in Kaleici explore the village on foot without needing a car; the marina, the restaurants and the market square are a few minutes away.

Outside the walls, around the harbour and the marina, there are newer hotels and apartments. Here the car can usually reach the door, and Kaleici is a few minutes’ walk away.

Those looking for a quieter beach holiday choose Akkum bay, just south of the village. With its sandy beach and steady wind, Akkum is also a favourite with windsurfers.

Most lanes in Kaleici are narrow, stone-paved and not suitable for cars. When you write us the name of your hotel, we look at where it is and drop you at the gate in the walls or at the nearest point a car can reach; from there it is a short walk with your luggage. At hotels outside the walls and in Akkum, we drop you right at the door.

One mix-up happens often with addresses: many Sigacik hotels give only “Seferihisar” in their address. The district centre, though, lies east of Sigacik, inland from the coast. If you are staying in the town or around Urkmez and Doganbey, have a look at our Seferihisar route; when you send us your address, we tell you straight away which route applies.

Teos Marina and ancient Teos

Teos Marina is just outside the walls; yachts and day-trip boats leave from here. If you are continuing your holiday by boat, send us the boat name and departure time and we plan the drop-off point in the marina accordingly.

The producers’ market that Seferihisar is known for as a Cittaslow town is also held in Sigacik. Many guests who come to the village buy their local cheese, olive oil and jams here.

A little south of the village, among olive groves, lie the ruins of ancient Teos. One of the twelve Ionian cities, Teos is known for its Temple of Dionysus and its theatre, and as the birthplace of the poet Anacreon. For anyone wanting to see the ruins, Akkum is a good starting point.

How much is a transfer from Izmir Airport to Sigacik?

Our fare from Izmir Airport to Sigacik is €50 / ₺2.750 per vehicle, one way. Whether it is a couple staying at a boutique hotel in Kaleici or a group of six friends boarding a boat at the marina, the fare is the same. Groups of more than seven can message us on WhatsApp, and we arrange a second vehicle together.

You pay nothing in advance and hand over the fare in cash at the end of the ride. Because we track your flight and do not charge for waiting, the amount you pay stays the same even if your plane is late. A round trip is simply two one-way fares added together. Hotels in Akkum and the town of Seferihisar have the same fare. Places further south along the coast, such as Gumuldur, have their own fare.

Returning from Sigacik to Izmir Airport

If you stayed in Kaleici, on the way back we usually meet at the gate in the walls where we dropped you off; just allow a few minutes to bring your luggage there from the hotel. If you are coming back from a boat holiday at the marina, we agree the marina entrance as the meeting point. In Akkum and at hotels outside the walls, we pick you up at the hotel door.

We set the pickup time together with you based on your flight and your check-out time. If you are returning by boat, the boat’s arrival time in the harbour can change, so a short message the day before makes planning easier. On days when the producers’ market is held, traffic can build up at the entrance to the village; if you are leaving that day, we add a little extra time to the pickup.
