All route prices →How do you get from Izmir Airport to Seferihisar?
From Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport to Seferihisar we have a drive of about 60 km, which on most days takes 45–55 minutes. From the airport we usually head south-west towards Menderes. From there we pass between the hills and make our way down to the coast.
The last stretch brings the olive groves and the mandarin orchards Seferihisar is known for. In winter, when the branches are full of fruit, first-time visitors usually enjoy driving between these orchards.
If your address is closer to the northern side of the district, we can also use the connection via Urla and the Cesme motorway. Whichever road we take, we stay out of Izmir’s city-centre traffic.
As the drive takes less than an hour, most of our guests do not need a break. If you have small children with you and would like a short stop on the way, just add it to your message.
Where do people stay in Seferihisar?
In 2009 Seferihisar became Turkey’s first Cittaslow (“slow city”) member. Local producers’ markets and small-scale farming are part of the district’s character. The best known of these markets is held in Sigacik, and people come from as far as Izmir for its local cheeses, olive oil, jams and seasonal vegetables. The district is also known for its festival where local seeds are swapped. The district covers a wide area, so two people who say “we’re staying in Seferihisar” may mean places quite far apart.
The district centre is a little inland: the town with its market streets, shops and weekly market, where everyday life goes on. There is no seafront accommodation in the town itself; hotels and holiday homes by the sea are on the coast.
West of the town lies the walled harbour village of Sigacik, with Teos Marina. Just south of Sigacik is Akkum bay, popular with windsurfers for its wind, and a little beyond it are the ruins of ancient Teos. In antiquity Teos was an Ionian city known for the cult of Dionysus; its remains spread over a wide area among the olive groves, very close to Akkum. Most boutique hotels and guesthouses are on this side.
On the district’s south-eastern coast are Urkmez and Doganbey. Housing estates and holiday homes dominate here, and in summer many families from Izmir spend their holidays on this stretch of coast. The sandy beach running along the shore at Urkmez is one of the main reasons families with children choose it.
On estates, finding the right gate is what takes the most time, so we ask for the estate name, the block or gate number and, if you have one, a map pin when you book; that way we bring the car straight to your door.
Seferihisar, Sigacik and Gumuldur: what is the difference?
There are three names that visitors to Seferihisar mix up most often. Sigacik belongs to Seferihisar, which is why many hotel addresses simply say “Seferihisar”. In Sigacik, however, car access to the walled quarter (Kaleici) is limited and the drop-off point is planned differently. You will find the details on our Sigacik page.
After Urkmez the coast continues towards Gumuldur and Ozdere, which belong to the Menderes district. Because Urkmez and Gumuldur are very close to each other along the shore, some estate addresses can be mixed up between the two districts. When you share your address, we check which district you are in and tell you the fare that applies before we set off.
How much is a transfer from Izmir Airport to Seferihisar?
Our fare from Izmir Airport to Seferihisar is €50 / ₺2.750 per vehicle, one way. It is not a per-person price: a large family arriving for a long stay at their holiday home and three friends coming to Akkum to surf use the same vehicle for the same fare. Our vehicle takes seven passengers; for groups of eight or more we arrange a second vehicle together via WhatsApp. The vehicle is reserved for you, and we pick up no other passengers on the way.
We ask for no payment in advance; you pay in cash at the end of the ride. If you plan both directions, the total is the sum of two one-way fares. Sigacik and Akkum have the same fare as Seferihisar, while Gumuldur and Ozdere have fares of their own.
Returning from Seferihisar to Izmir Airport
On the day you leave, we pick you up where you stayed. On the estates in Urkmez and Doganbey we usually meet at the estate entrance or in front of your block. On estates with a security gate, letting the guard know your name in advance helps the car get in quickly. At hotels in the town and in Akkum, the hotel entrance is our meeting point. If you stayed inside the walls in Sigacik, we agree in advance to meet at the gate in the walls, where the car can get close.
We set the pickup time together with you based on your check-out time and your flight. If you need to close up the holiday home and hand over the keys, we leave time for that too. If you would like to stop at the market in Sigacik or at a local producer to pick up some olive oil before heading off, we can add that short stop to the plan.
