From Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport to Marmaris it is about 260 km, a drive that takes 3.5–4 hours on most days. We follow the Izmir–Aydin motorway to Aydin, turn south there and climb via Cine to Mugla. After Mugla we wind down to Marmaris between hills covered in pine forest. When the bay comes into view below, we are nearly there.
On a drive of almost four hours, a break usually does everyone good. If your children or an older relative are travelling with you, we can plan together where and for how long to stop; just mention it when you book, and we will tell you the arrival time with the break included.
Where do people stay in Marmaris?
In Marmaris town, the castle, the bazaar and the yacht harbour are close together, and in the evenings the road along the seafront is busy. Right next to the centre, Armutalan and Siteler are neighbourhoods full of hotels and apart-hotels. Icmeler, at the western end of the bay, feels like a separate resort with its own beach and hotels. Marmaris is also one of the harbours where blue cruises begin, and many gulets and yachts are moored in its marina all year round.
Those looking for somewhere quieter head for Turunc or the villages on the Bozburun peninsula. The road to these places carries on for a while after Marmaris town.
